Fr. Robinson's Message 5/10/26

Dear brothers and sisters,

May 8th marked the first anniversary of the election of Pope Leo XIV. We continue to give thanks to God for the great gift He has given us in having a pope who grew up just a few miles from our parish and a pope who understands North American and Latin American culture well. We remain deeply connected to this pope and pray that the Lord will bless and accompany him as he guides our beloved Catholic Church.

We also join in prayer for the soul of Pope Francis, who passed away on April 21st of last year. It has now been a year since the passing of the first Latin American pope. His prophetic teaching has left its mark on the Church, and for this reason, Pope Leo called all the cardinals to Rome in June, among other things, “to relaunch Evangelii Gaudium (The Joy of the Gospel) through an honest assessment of what has actually been embraced over the years and what, by contrast, remains unfamiliar or unimplemented.” Pope Francis' apostolic exhortation was a gift to the Church, and we will continue to reflect on it and implement it here in our parish. Rest in peace, Pope Francis, and thank you!

A special greeting to our deacons, who are celebrating their ordination anniversaries: Deacon Robert Powers was ordained on May 11, 2019, and Deacon Roberto Reyes on May 14, 2022. Many thanks to the deacons and their wives for their constant service to our parish community.

Finally, I have been invited to participate in an exciting new priest leadership formation program for all priests of the Archdiocese, called Walking Together as Disciples, Shepherds, and Stewards – Priest Leadership in the Context of Spiritual Renewal. This program will take place from Sunday, May 10 to Friday, May 15 at the University of St. Mary of the Lake. Walking Together is designed to provide priests the opportunity to step away from the busyness of daily parish life and reflect deeply on how we are called to be leaders in today’s Church. Please pray for me during this important time with the Cardinal and my brother priests and know that I keep all of you in my prayers as well.

And to all our dear mothers, we wish you a beautiful day. Some say that a mother is something so great and so beautiful that even God wanted one. Happy Mother's Day!

Queridos hermanos y hermanas,

El 8 de mayo se cumplió un año de la elección del papa León XIV. Seguimos dando gracias a Dios por el regalo tan grande que nos ha dado al tener un papa que creció a apenas unas millas de nuestra parroquia y un papa que entiende bien la cultura norteamericana y latinoamericana. Nos seguimos muy identificados con este papa y oramos para que el Señor lo bendiga y acompañe al guiar a nuestra amada Iglesia Católica.

También nos unimos en oración por el alma del Papa Francisco, quien falleció el 21 de abril del año pasado. Ha sido ya un año del fallecimiento del primer papa latinoamericano. Su enseñanza profética ha marcado la iglesia y por ello el Papa León ha llamado a todos los cardenales a Roma en el mes de junio, entre otras cosas, “a relanzar Evangelii Gaudium (La Alegría del Evangelio) para verificar con honestidad qué es lo que, tras el paso de los años, se ha asimilado realmente y qué es lo que, por el contrario, sigue siendo desconocido y sin poner en práctica”. Esa exhortación apostólica del Papa Francisco fue un regalo para la iglesia y la seguiremos reflexionando e implementando aquí en nuestra parroquia. Descanse en paz, Papa Francisco, ¡y gracias!

Un saludo especial a nuestros diáconos, quienes celebran su aniversario de ordenación: el diácono Robert Powers fue ordenado el 11 de mayo de 2019 y el diácono Roberto Reyes el 14 de mayo de 2022. Muchas gracias a los diáconos y a sus esposas por su constante servicio a nuestra comunidad parroquial.

Finalmente, he sido invitado a participar en un nuevo e interesante programa de formación de liderazgo sacerdotal para todos los sacerdotes de la Arquidiócesis, titulado «Caminando Juntos como Discípulos, Pastores y Administradores: Liderazgo Sacerdotal en el Contexto de la Renovación Espiritual». Este programa se llevará a cabo del domingo 10 al viernes 15 de mayo en la Universidad de Santa María del Lago. «Caminando Juntos» está diseñado para brindar a los sacerdotes la oportunidad de alejarse del ajetreo de la vida parroquial diaria y reflexionar profundamente sobre cómo estamos llamados a ser líderes en la Iglesia de hoy. Les pido que oren por mí durante este importante tiempo con el Cardenal y mis hermanos sacerdotes, y sepan que también los tengo presentes en mis oraciones.

Y a todas nuestras queridas madres les deseamos que tengan un hermoso día. Dicen por ahí que una madre es algo tan grande y tan hermoso que hasta Dios quiso tener una. ¡Feliz Día de las Madres!
