Fr. Robinson's Message 6/28/26

Dear brothers and sisters,

This weekend, our parish joins Catholics throughout the world in supporting the annual Peter’s Pence Collection. This collection is an opportunity for us to express our unity with the Holy Father and participate in the universal mission of the Church.

For centuries, Catholics have contributed to Peter’s Pence as a tangible sign of communion with the Successor of St. Peter. Today, these gifts help the Holy Father carry out his ministry of proclaiming the Gospel, promoting peace, supporting education and human development, and strengthening the Church’s mission throughout the world. The collection also assists with charitable works that provide relief to individuals and families facing hardship, including victims of war, natural disasters, poverty, and humanitarian crises.

Through our support of Peter’s Pence, we participate in the Church’s mission of bringing Christ’s love and compassion to those most in need. Every contribution, regardless of size, becomes part of a worldwide effort to serve others and bear witness to the Gospel. Thank you for your generosity and for supporting the ministry of the Holy Father. Donations for Peter’s Pence may be placed in the black boxes in the church.

As parishioners of St. Augustine Parish, we were delighted to learn of Pope Leo XIV’s recent visit to Pavia, Italy, where he prayed at the tomb of St. Augustine in the Basilica of San Pietro in Ciel d’Oro. On June 20, the Holy Father venerated the relics of our patron saint and reflected on the enduring wisdom of Augustine, whose life and writings continue to inspire Christians throughout the world.

This visit was particularly meaningful because Pope Leo XIV is himself an Augustinian. Long before becoming Pope, he was formed by the spirituality and teachings of St. Augustine. During his visit, he spoke about Augustine’s invitation to “return into yourself,” reminding believers that God speaks to us in the depths of our hearts and that authentic faith begins with a sincere encounter with the Lord.

For us at St. Augustine Parish, this pilgrimage is a beautiful reminder of our own identity and mission. We bear the name of one of the Church’s greatest saints—a man whose restless search for truth led him to Christ and whose famous words continue to resonate through the centuries: “Our hearts are restless until they rest in You.”

As we continue our parish journey together, may we draw inspiration from both St. Augustine and Pope Leo XIV. May we seek the Lord with the same passion, grow in faith through prayer and study, and build a parish community rooted in unity, charity, and love for Christ. We thank God for this special connection between our patron saint and our Holy Father, and we pray that St. Augustine will continue to intercede for our parish and all its families.

Este fin de semana nuestra parroquia se une a los católicos de todo el mundo para apoyar la colecta anual del Óbolo de San Pedro. Esta colecta nos brinda la oportunidad de expresar nuestra comunión con el Santo Padre y participar en la misión universal de la Iglesia. Las donaciones pueden depositarse en las cajas negras ubicadas dentro de la iglesia.

Desde hace siglos, los fieles católicos contribuyen al Óbolo de San Pedro como un signo concreto de su unión con el Sucesor de San Pedro. En la actualidad, estas contribuciones ayudan al Papa a llevar adelante su ministerio de anunciar el Evangelio, promover la paz, apoyar iniciativas educativas y de desarrollo humano, y fortalecer la misión de la Iglesia en todo el mundo. Asimismo, permiten responder a situaciones de emergencia y brindar ayuda a personas y familias afectadas por la pobreza, los desastres naturales, los conflictos armados y otras crisis humanitarias.

Al apoyar esta colecta, participamos en la misión de la Iglesia de llevar el amor y la misericordia de Cristo a quienes más lo necesitan. Toda contribución, sin importar su cantidad, forma parte de un esfuerzo global para servir a nuestros hermanos y hermanas y dar testimonio del Evangelio. Agradecemos sinceramente su generosidad. Les recordamos que las donaciones para el Óbolo de San Pedro pueden depositarse en las cajas negras de la iglesia.

Como feligreses de la Parroquia San Agustín, recibimos con gran alegría la noticia de la reciente visita del Papa León XIV a la ciudad de Pavía, Italia, donde oró ante la tumba de San Agustín en la Basílica de San Pietro in Ciel d’Oro. El 20 de junio el Santo Padre veneró las reliquias de nuestro santo patrono y reflexionó sobre la actualidad y profundidad de su legado espiritual.

Esta visita tiene un significado muy especial porque el Papa León XIV pertenece a la Orden de San Agustín. Antes de ser elegido Papa, vivió y sirvió durante muchos años inspirado por la espiritualidad agustiniana. Durante su peregrinación a la tumba del santo, recordó una de las enseñanzas centrales de San Agustín: la invitación a mirar hacia el interior del corazón para encontrarnos con Dios. Nos recordó que la fe auténtica nace del encuentro personal con el Señor y de la apertura sincera a su gracia.

Para nuestra comunidad parroquial, este acontecimiento es un hermoso recordatorio de nuestra identidad y misión. Llevamos con orgullo el nombre de uno de los más grandes santos de la Iglesia, un hombre cuya búsqueda apasionada de la verdad lo condujo a Cristo y cuya sabiduría continúa iluminando a millones de personas. Sus palabras siguen resonando hoy con la misma fuerza de hace más de mil seiscientos años: “Nos hiciste, Señor, para ti, y nuestro corazón está inquieto hasta que descanse en ti”.

Que el ejemplo de San Agustín y el testimonio del Papa León XIV nos inspiren a buscar cada día más profundamente al Señor, a crecer en la fe mediante la oración y el estudio, y a fortalecer nuestra comunidad parroquial en la unidad, la caridad y el amor a Cristo. Damos gracias a Dios por esta especial conexión entre nuestro santo patrono y el Santo Padre, y pedimos la intercesión de San Agustín por nuestra parroquia y por todas nuestras familias.
