Fr. Robinson's Message 8/16/26

Dear brothers and sisters,

First, allow me to thank the many of you who asked about my family throughout this past week. As many of you know, I am from Colombia, and my entire family still lives there. On Monday, August 10, a 7.4-magnitude earthquake was felt across much of the country and affected vast areas, especially in the western part of Colombia. Thankfully, my family does not live in the affected area and they are doing well. They felt the movement and, understandably, were frightened by the earthquake.

Sadly, however, hundreds of people have lost their homes, and some have lost their lives, relatives, and friends. I also contacted the religious sisters who were with us last year, the Siervas de Cristo Sacerdote. They are safe, and most of the foundations they operate were not seriously affected. Sadly, two of their employees lost their homes. We will have a second collection August 23^rd to support the relief services offered by the Sisters. Let us continue to help financially whenever we are able and, above all, to keep the affected families in our prayers as the difficult work of healing and rebuilding begins.

I also want to turn our attention to all those affected by the storms that have passed through our area in recent weeks. Many people have been without power for days, and we have seen trees, power lines, and branches down throughout our communities. Here on our parish and school campus, we also experienced some of the effects of the storms, at times for several hours or even days. We are grateful to the first responders, utility workers, and village employees for their diligent work in helping our community recover. Let us continue to check on one another, especially our neighbors, relatives, and friends who may need some extra assistance.

Finally, the beginning of a new academic and catechetical year is upon us. Our catechists and volunteers in Religious Education have been gathering to prepare to welcome more than 400 students. Our school teachers will also begin meeting this week to prepare for the 235 students who will soon return to our parish school. These are very healthy numbers, and we give thanks to God for the many people who make this possible.

I encourage all of us to pray for our students, teachers, catechists, staff, administrators, and volunteers. May we offer our young people the best education possible while helping them grow in faith, hope, and love. As we begin this new academic year, I invite all students to bring their backpacks to Mass next weekend for a special Blessing of Backpacks at all Masses. Let us begin this new year by placing our students, their studies, and their entire school year in God's hands.

May the Lord bless our students, our families, and our entire parish community.

Queridos hermanos y hermanas:

Ante todo, quiero agradecer a tantos de ustedes que durante esta semana me preguntaron por mi familia. Como muchos saben, soy de Colombia y toda mi familia todavía vive allá. El lunes 10 de agosto, un terremoto de magnitud 7.4 se sintió en gran parte del país y afectó extensas zonas, especialmente en el occidente de Colombia. Afortunadamente, mi familia no vive en la zona afectada y todos se encuentran bien. Sintieron el movimiento y, como es natural, se asustaron ante el terremoto.

Lamentablemente, cientos de personas han perdido sus hogares, y algunas han perdido la vida, así como familiares y amigos. También me comuniqué con las religiosas que estuvieron con nosotros el año pasado, las Siervas de Cristo Sacerdote. Ellas se encuentran bien y la mayoría de las fundaciones que dirigen no sufrieron daños graves. Lamentablemente, dos de sus empleados perdieron sus hogares. Tendremos una segunda colecta el 23 de agosto para ayudar los esfuerzos de atención por parte de las Hermanas. Sigamos ayudando económicamente en la medida de nuestras posibilidades y, sobre todo, mantengamos en nuestras oraciones a las familias afectadas mientras comienza el difícil proceso de sanación y reconstrucción.

También quiero dirigir nuestra atención a todos aquellos que se han visto afectados por las tormentas que han pasado por nuestra zona durante las últimas semanas. Muchas personas han estado sin electricidad durante días, y hemos visto árboles, líneas eléctricas y ramas caídas por toda nuestra comunidad. Aquí, en nuestro campus parroquial y escolar, también experimentamos algunos de los efectos de las tormentas, en ocasiones durante varias horas o incluso días. Agradecemos profundamente a los equipos de emergencia, trabajadores de las compañías de servicios públicos y empleados del pueblo por su diligente trabajo para ayudar a nuestra comunidad a recuperarse. Sigamos pendientes unos de otros, especialmente de nuestros vecinos, familiares y amigos que puedan necesitar un poco de ayuda.

Finalmente, se acerca el comienzo de un nuevo año académico y catequético. Nuestros catequistas y voluntarios de Educación Religiosa se han estado reuniendo para prepararse para recibir a más de 400 estudiantes. Nuestros maestros también comenzarán a reunirse esta semana para prepararse para los 235 estudiantes que pronto regresarán a nuestra escuela parroquial. Estas son cifras muy alentadoras, y damos gracias a Dios por todas las personas que hacen esto posible.

Los invito a todos a orar por nuestros estudiantes, maestros, catequistas, personal, administradores y voluntarios. Que podamos ofrecer a nuestros jóvenes la mejor educación posible, ayudándolos a crecer en la fe, la esperanza y el amor. Al comenzar este nuevo año académico, invito a todos los estudiantes a traer sus mochilas a la Misa el próximo fin de semana para una Bendición de las Mochilas en todas las Misas. Comencemos este nuevo año poniendo en las manos de Dios a nuestros estudiantes, sus estudios y todo el año escolar.

Que el Señor bendiga a nuestros estudiantes, a nuestras familias y a toda nuestra comunidad parroquial.
