Fr. Robinson's Message 8/2/26

Last weekend, we had the privilege of welcoming Dr. Zachary Gastelum from the Mission Doctors Association as part of the annual Missionary Cooperation Plan in which all the parishes of the Archdiocese participate. I want to thank you for your warm hospitality and your generous support. Dr. Gastelum expressed how grateful he was for your kindness and generosity. It was inspiring to hear his desire to continue placing his medical profession at the service of Christ and of those who have little or no access to healthcare. Please continue to keep him, and all missionaries throughout the world, in your prayers. May God bless them as they bring hope, healing, and the love of Christ to those most in need.

This week, I also want to congratulate four of our young parishioners whose stories you will read on the next page of this bulletin. Angel Herrera, Izabella Herrera, and Violet Spies returned from Catholic Heart Workcamp in Michigan, where they spent a week serving others while growing in their relationship with Jesus through prayer, the sacraments, and Christian fellowship. Isabela Marcial had the remarkable opportunity to participate in the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute's Next Gen Latino Leadership Program in Washington, D.C., where she represented our community while learning about leadership and public service.

Although their experiences were very different, they have something beautiful in common: each of them answered God's invitation to grow, to serve, and to use their gifts for the good of others. They remind us that our young people are not simply the future of the Church—they are an essential part of the Church today.

To Angel, Izabella, Violet, and Isabela: thank you for saying "yes" to these opportunities. Thank you for representing St. Augustine Parish so well. Continue allowing the Lord to guide your lives, and never be afraid to dream big when those dreams are rooted in faith and service. As Pope Leo XIV recently encouraged young people, "Aspire to great things, to holiness, wherever you are. Do not settle for less. You will then see the light of the Gospel growing every day, in you and around you." May you continue to let Christ shape your hearts and lead you wherever He calls you.

Their witness also reminds all of us that every member of our parish has gifts to share. As we prepare for another year of ministry, I encourage you to prayerfully ask the Lord: How is He calling me to serve? Perhaps He is inviting you to become involved in one of our liturgical ministries, help with our Religious Education program, volunteer in our school, join one of our parish organizations, or offer your talents in another way. A vibrant parish is built not only by its clergy or staff, but by parishioners who generously share their time, talent, and treasure.

Thank you for all that you already do to make St. Augustine Parish a welcoming and faith-filled community. Together, let us continue building a parish where every person can encounter Christ, grow in faith, and discover the joy of serving others.

Queridos hermanos y hermanas:

El fin de semana pasado tuvimos el privilegio de recibir al Dr. Zachary Gastelum, de la Asociación de Médicos Misioneros, como parte del Plan Anual de Cooperación Misionera, en el que participan todas las parroquias de nuestra Arquidiócesis. Quiero agradecerles por la cálida bienvenida que le brindaron y por su generoso apoyo. El Dr. Gastelum expresó su profundo agradecimiento por la hospitalidad y la generosidad de nuestra comunidad. Fue inspirador escuchar su deseo de seguir poniendo su profesión médica al servicio de Cristo y de las personas que tienen poco o ningún acceso a la atención médica. Los invito a seguir orando por él y por todos los misioneros del mundo. Que Dios los bendiga mientras llevan esperanza, sanación y el amor de Cristo a quienes más lo necesitan.

Esta semana también quiero felicitar a cuatro de nuestras jóvenes parroquianas, cuyas experiencias podrán leer en nustra página web. Ángel Herrera, Izabella Herrera y Violet Spies regresaron del Catholic Heart Workcamp en Michigan, donde dedicaron una semana al servicio de los demás mientras crecían en su relación con Jesús por medio de la oración, los sacramentos y la convivencia cristiana. Por su parte, Isabela Marcial tuvo la extraordinaria oportunidad de participar en el programa Next Gen Latino Leadership Program del Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, en Washington, D.C., donde representó a nuestra comunidad mientras profundizaba en el liderazgo y el servicio público.

Aunque sus experiencias fueron diferentes, todas tienen algo muy hermoso en común: cada una de ellas respondió a la invitación de Dios para crecer, servir y poner sus talentos al servicio de los demás. Nos recuerdan que nuestros jóvenes no son solamente el futuro de la Iglesia; son una parte esencial de la Iglesia de hoy.

A Ángel, Izabella, Violet e Isabela: gracias por decirle "sí" a estas oportunidades. Gracias por representar tan bien a la Parroquia San Agustín. Sigan permitiendo que el Señor guíe sus vidas y nunca tengan miedo de soñar en grande cuando esos sueños estén arraigados en la fe y el servicio. Como nos anima el Papa León XIV: «Aspiren a cosas grandes, a la santidad, allí donde se encuentren. No se conformen con menos. Entonces verán cómo la luz del Evangelio crece cada día, en ustedes y a su alrededor.» Que Cristo continúe moldeando sus corazones y las conduzca siempre por el camino al que Él las llama.

El testimonio de estas jóvenes también nos recuerda que cada miembro de nuestra parroquia tiene dones que ofrecer. Al prepararnos para un nuevo año de ministerio, los invito a preguntarle al Señor en la oración: ¿Cómo me está llamando a servir? Tal vez los esté invitando a integrarse a uno de nuestros ministerios litúrgicos, colaborar en nuestro programa de Educación Religiosa, apoyar a nuestra escuela, unirse a alguna organización parroquial o compartir sus talentos de alguna otra manera. Una parroquia viva no se construye solamente con el trabajo de los sacerdotes o del personal parroquial, sino con parroquianos que comparten generosamente su tiempo, sus talentos y sus recursos.

Gracias por todo lo que ya hacen para que la Parroquia San Agustín sea una comunidad acogedora y llena de fe. Sigamos construyendo juntos una parroquia donde cada persona pueda encontrarse con Cristo, crecer en la fe y descubrir la alegría de servir a los demás.
