Fr. Robinson's Message 8/9/26

Dear brothers and sisters,

Last Monday, I had the joy of attending the Mass of Simple Profession of four young men who are taking an important step in their journey of religious life: Br. Pier Giorgio Honner, Br. John Rickert, Br. Elijah Danaher, and Br. Francisco Carreón.

It was a particularly special celebration for me because Br. Elijah is a parishioner of St. Augustine. Over the past year, we have accompanied him with our prayers as he spent his novitiate year with the Dominican Order. At the Mass, together with his brothers, he professed vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience for the next three years.

With the help of Fr. Louis Morrone, Prior Provincial of the Dominicans, these young men have discerned that God is calling them to continue their formation in the Dominican Order. They will now begin their formal graduate studies at the Aquinas Institute of Theology in St. Louis, Missouri.

On Sunday, August 2, Br. Elijah also returned to St. Augustine and shared with us at the 9:30 am Mass about his experience during this past year. It was wonderful to hear him speak about what he has learned, the challenges he has experienced, and the ways in which God has continued to guide him. I encourage you to read his reflection on the following page of this bulletin.

I am grateful to all of you who have prayed for Br. Elijah and supported him throughout this year. Please continue to pray for him and for Br. Pier Giorgio, Br. John, and Br. Francisco as they continue their formation. Their journey reminds us that a vocation is ultimately a response to God’s invitation to give ourselves generously to Him.

Their profession also gives us an opportunity to ask an important question: What might God be calling me to do with my life?

Perhaps there is a young man in our parish who has wondered about the priesthood or religious life. Perhaps there is a young woman whom God is inviting to consider religious life or consecrated life. Sometimes the first step in discernment is simply having the courage to ask the question and to be open to where God may be leading.

I encourage our young people not to be afraid of God's call. God does not call us to something that will make our lives empty; He calls us to discover the particular way in which we can love Him and serve His people.

If you have questions about the priesthood, religious life, or consecrated life, please feel free to speak with me. I would be happy to listen, answer your questions, and help you take the first steps in discerning God's call.

And to all of our parishioners: please pray for vocations. Pray especially for Br. Elijah and his Dominican brothers, and pray that God will continue to call young men and women from our own parish to serve His Church.

May the Lord bless these four young men and guide them faithfully as they continue to discern and respond to His call.

Queridos hermanos y hermanas:

El lunes pasado tuve la alegría de participar en la Misa de Profesión Simple de cuatro jóvenes que están dando un paso muy importante en su camino de vida religiosa: el Hno. Pier Giorgio Honner, el Hno. John Rickert, el Hno. Elijah Danaher y el Hno. Francisco Carreón.

Fue una celebración especialmente significativa para mí porque el Hermano Elijah (Elías) es feligrés de nuestra parroquia de San Agustín. Durante el último año, lo hemos acompañado con nuestras oraciones mientras realizaba su año de noviciado con la Orden de Predicadores, los Dominicos. Durante la Misa, junto con sus hermanos, profesó los votos de pobreza, castidad y obediencia por los próximos tres años.

Con la ayuda del P. Louis Morrone, Prior Provincial de los Dominicos, estos jóvenes han discernido que Dios los llama a continuar su formación dentro de la Orden Dominicana. Ahora comenzarán sus estudios formales de posgrado en el Aquinas Institute of Theology, en St. Louis, Missouri.

El domingo 2 de agosto, el Hno. Elijah también regresó a nuestra parroquia y compartió con nosotros, durante la Misa de las 9:30 a.m., su experiencia durante este último año. Fue muy hermoso escucharlo hablar sobre lo que ha aprendido, los desafíos que ha experimentado y las maneras en que Dios ha continuado guiándolo. Estoy muy agradecido con todos ustedes que han orado por el Hno. Elijah y lo han apoyado durante este año. Les pido que continúen orando por él y por el Hno. Pier Giorgio, el Hno. John y el Hno. Francisco mientras continúan su formación. Su camino nos recuerda que una vocación es, en última instancia, una respuesta a la invitación de Dios a entregarnos generosamente a Él.

Su profesión también nos brinda la oportunidad de hacernos una pregunta importante: ¿A qué podría estar llamándome Dios en mi vida?

Quizás hay un joven en nuestra parroquia que alguna vez ha pensado en el sacerdocio o en la vida religiosa. Quizás hay una joven a quien Dios está invitando a considerar la vida religiosa o la vida consagrada. A veces, el primer paso en el discernimiento es simplemente tener el valor de hacerse la pregunta y estar abiertos a descubrir hacia dónde nos está guiando Dios.

Animo a nuestros jóvenes a no tener miedo de la llamada de Dios. Dios no nos llama a algo que hará que nuestra vida esté vacía; nos llama a descubrir la manera particular en que podemos amarlo y servir a su pueblo.

Si tienen preguntas sobre el sacerdocio, la vida religiosa o la vida consagrada, no duden en hablar conmigo. Con mucho gusto los escucharé, responderé a sus preguntas y los ayudaré a dar los primeros pasos para discernir la llamada de Dios.

Y a todos nuestros feligreses les digo: oren por las vocaciones. Oren especialmente por el Hno. Elijah y sus hermanos dominicos, y pidan al Señor que continúe llamando a jóvenes de nuestra propia parroquia para servir a su Iglesia.

Que el Señor bendiga a estos cuatro jóvenes y los guíe fielmente mientras continúan discerniendo y respondiendo a su llamada.
