Church & School Projects Update

Dear parishioners,

At the start of the Generation-to-Generation campaign, it was shared that this campaign—with a goal set on the building of a new parish hall—would not affect planning and funding of other maintenance and improvements around the campus. Your parish leadership is holding up on that commitment, and the only thing we ask of all of you is some patience and understanding as we embark on projects this season. 

Handicap Accessible (West) Entrance of Church: While our parish was blessed with a handicap accessible ramp for many years, we have now installed an automatic door feature for ease of use to our parishioners and guests. 

Repair/Replace Asphalt and Sealcoating:  Two summers ago, a stop-gap measure was taken to assist parishioners and guests with parking while on campus by restriping and adding striping to indicate an eastbound and westbound lane between Keeler and Karlov entrances. This summer, St. Augustine will be replacing the asphalt section between the sacristy entrance of church and the convent/office. Many of you may have noticed the caution cones at that section where a large hole has formed, revealing an old foundation wall. The parish and school lots will be repaired, seal coated and re-striped. Since the work will be managed during the week, it will not affect weekend services but may impede parking for meetings. Our parish office will communicate the schedule via the bulletin and notify groups accordingly. 

Rectory Patio: The rectory patio has great potential for becoming a hospitality space. It is near the church and convenient for small gatherings with the pastor. For instance, our parish has been blessed by many new parishioners in the recent years and what better way to welcome these fresh faces to our community than meet-n-greets with our pastor and other parish leaders in the patio-side at the rectory! A new paver patio with seating and refreshed landscaping will make a welcome setting to host such events. The fence also needs some work done for more privacy and will be replaced by a new one. 

School Door 212 Entranceway: As our only street level entrance to the school, this door not only serves as an entrance for most of our students and staff but also for sports practices and games, tournaments, family and school events, bingo and much more! The parish finance council has reviewed several bids and has recommended the renovation of the flooring along with some other aesthetic measures to show some school pride. 

Gymnasium Restrooms: During the Centennial Celebration last year, many families fondly remembered the days when the school hosted roller skating and spaghetti dinners during Fiesta, but no one mentioned pleasant memories of the gym restrooms. Thanks to the efforts of our school Athletic board and our parishioners at Bingo raising funds, we are proceeding with much needed renovations to the men’s and women’s restrooms. Much like our Unit D renovation, this will be a welcome change including new dropped ceiling, motion sensor LED lighting, higher toilet basins and dual sinks with counters. 

Other Projects Done in the Past Three Years: Thanks to the generosity of our parishioners, in the past three years we have been able to complete several projects. Some interior and exterior structural repairs were completed in our parish office. In the school, two large roof projects are complete, LED troffer fixtures have replaced the old fluorescent fixtures in the corridors and classrooms, and more hours and resources dedicated to the maintenance department. In the parking lot, we striped and improved the lighting by adding LED lights. Signage was improved to ease finding the Food Pantry, Parish Office, and various other locations on campus. In the Unit D building (soon-to-be-called ‘The Ministry Center’), a heating/cooling system was installed, restrooms were remodeled, walls were repainted and new lights and dropped ceiling were installed in every classroom and corridor. In the church: sound improvements have been made by updating our systems and adding more speakers in the middle of the church, back of the altar, confession area and the choir loft, a Wi-Fi listening service with capacity for simultaneous translation was added; we also installed a Bluetooth system, new wireless microphones, new LED lights, and buttons for the handicap accessible automatic door by the ramp; we bought new books for Masses of Mary, smaller Roman Missals for easier handling by altar servers, readings book for ritual Masses, song books in Spanish and bilingual, red books to follow the Mass readings, new ritual books, updated images of St. Augustine and Pope Leo XIV for the sacristy, a new photo camera for use in parish and school events, a software with an app for scheduling liturgical ministers, and a new parish website was published. Lastly but most importantly, we have managed not only repairs but preventative maintenance in our boilers and chillers for each of the buildings. 

There are many other big and small projects that we are planning and almost ready for execution when the right time arrives, including new roofs for the church and the rectory, new steps and a ramp in the main entrance of the church, increased lighting in our campus, and more interior and exterior security cameras. 

Your generosity and our stewardship have made all this possible. Though there are many other small improvements made over time that are not included in this article, our pledge to you is that we use the parish resources very well. In the Fall we will present our annual report for Fiscal Year 2025. Our church and school communities continue to grow spiritually. Our buildings must support the evangelizing mission of the church. That is the reason of their existence, and we must join efforts to work tirelessly for the proclamation of the Gospel and the protection of the dignity of every human being in this community and beyond.

Nota sobre proyectos en la iglesia y la escuela

Estimados feligreses:

Al inicio de la campaña Generación a Generación, se informó que esta campaña, cuyo objetivo es la construcción de un nuevo salón parroquial, no afectaría la planificación ni la financiación de otras tareas de mantenimiento y mejoras en el campus. Los líderes de su parroquia están cumpliendo con ese compromiso, y solo les pedimos paciencia y comprensión mientras emprendemos los proyectos de esta temporada. 

Entrada de la iglesia accesible para personas con discapacidad (oeste): Si bien nuestra parroquia ha contado con una rampa accesible para personas con discapacidad durante muchos años, ahora hemos instalado una puerta automática para facilitar el uso a nuestros feligreses e invitados. 

Reparación/reemplazo de asfalto y sellado: Hace dos veranos, se implementó una medida provisional para facilitar el estacionamiento de los feligreses e invitados dentro del campus, repintando y añadiendo líneas para indicar un carril en dirección este y oeste entre las entradas de Keeler y Karlov. Este verano, San Agustín reemplazará el tramo de asfalto entre la entrada de la sacristía y el convento/oficina. Muchos de ustedes habrán notado los conos de precaución en esa sección, donde se ha formado un agujero que deja al descubierto un antiguo muro de cimentación. Los lotes de la parroquia y la escuela serán reparados, sellados y repintados. Dado que las obras se realizarán entre semana, no afectarán los servicios del fin de semana, pero podrían dificultar el estacionamiento para las reuniones. Nuestra oficina parroquial comunicará el horario mediante el boletín y notificará a los grupos según corresponda. 

Patio de la Rectoría: El patio de la rectoría tiene un gran potencial para convertirse en un espacio de hospitalidad. Está cerca de la iglesia y es ideal para pequeñas reuniones con el párroco. Por ejemplo, nuestra parroquia ha recibido la bendición de muchos nuevos feligreses en los últimos años, y qué mejor manera de dar la bienvenida a estas nuevas caras a nuestra comunidad que con un encuentro con nuestro párroco y otros líderes parroquiales en el patio de la rectoría. Un nuevo patio adoquinado con asientos y un jardín renovado será un lugar ideal para celebrar este tipo de eventos. La cerca también necesita algunas mejoras para mayor privacidad y será reemplazada por una nueva. 

Entrada por la Puerta 212 de la Escuela: Siendo nuestra única entrada a nivel de calle, esta puerta no solo sirve para la mayoría de nuestros estudiantes y personal, sino también para prácticas y juegos deportivos, torneos, eventos familiares y escolares, bingo y mucho más. El consejo parroquial de finanzas ha revisado varias propuestas y ha recomendado la renovación del piso, junto con otras medidas estéticas para mostrar el orgullo escolar. 

Baños del Gimnasio: Durante la Celebración del Centenario el año pasado, muchas familias recordaron con cariño los días en que la escuela organizaba cenas de patinaje y espaguetis durante la Fiesta, pero nadie mencionó buenos recuerdos de los baños del gimnasio. Gracias a los esfuerzos de la junta atlética de la escuela y de nuestros feligreses en el Bingo para recaudar fondos, estamos procediendo con las muy necesarias renovaciones en los baños de hombres y mujeres. Al igual que la renovación de la Unidad D, este será un cambio bienvenido que incluye un nuevo techo falso, iluminación LED con sensor de movimiento, inodoros más altos y lavabos dobles con encimeras. 

Otros Proyectos Realizados En Los Últimos Tres Años: Gracias a la generosidad de nuestros feligreses, en los últimos tres años hemos podido completar varios proyectos. Se realizaron reparaciones estructurales interiores y exteriores en nuestra oficina parroquial. En la escuela, se completaron dos grandes proyectos de techo; las lámparas LED de techo han reemplazado las antiguas lámparas fluorescentes en los pasillos y aulas, y se han dedicado más horas y recursos al departamento de mantenimiento. En el estacionamiento, se delineó y mejoró la iluminación con luces LED. Se mejoró la señalización para facilitar la ubicación de la despensa de comida, la Oficina Parroquial y otros lugares del campus. En el edificio de la Unidad D (que pronto se llamará "El Centro Ministerial"), se instaló un sistema de calefacción y aire acondicionado, se remodelaron los baños, se pintaron las paredes y se instalaron nuevas luces y un falso techo en cada aula y pasillo. En la iglesia: se han realizado mejoras de sonido mediante la actualización de nuestros sistemas y la instalación de más altavoces en el centro de la iglesia, detrás del altar, el área de confesión y arriba en el coro. Se agregó un servicio de escucha por Wi-Fi con capacidad para traducción simultánea. También instalamos un sistema Bluetooth, nuevos micrófonos inalámbricos, nuevas luces LED y botones para la puerta automática accesible para personas con discapacidad junto a la rampa; compramos libros nuevos para las Misas de María, Misales Romanos más pequeños para facilitar su manejo por parte de los monaguillos, libros de lecturas para las Misas rituales, cancioneros en español y bilingües, libros rojos para acompañar las lecturas de la Misa, nuevos libros rituales, imágenes actualizadas de San Agustín y el Papa León XIV para la sacristía, una nueva cámara fotográfica para usar en eventos parroquiales y escolares, un software con una aplicación para programar ministros litúrgicos y se publicó un nuevo sitio web parroquial. Por último, pero más importante, hemos gestionado no solo las reparaciones, sino también el mantenimiento preventivo de nuestros sistemas de calefacción y aire acondicionado en cada uno de los edificios. 

Hay muchos otros proyectos, grandes y pequeños, que estamos planeando y que estarán casi listos para ejecutarse cuando llegue el momento oportuno, incluyendo nuevos techos para la iglesia y la rectoría, nuevas escaleras y una rampa en la entrada principal de la iglesia, mayor iluminación en nuestro campus y más cámaras de seguridad interiores y exteriores. 

Su generosidad y nuestra administración han hecho posible todo esto. Si bien se han realizado muchas otras pequeñas mejoras con el tiempo que no se incluyen en este artículo, nos comprometemos a utilizar eficazmente los recursos de la parroquia. En otoño presentaremos nuestro informe anual del año fiscal 2025. Nuestras comunidades eclesiales y escolares continúan creciendo espiritualmente. Nuestros edificios deben apoyar la misión evangelizadora de la iglesia. Esa es su razón de ser, y debemos unir esfuerzos para trabajar incansablemente por la proclamación del Evangelio y la protección de la dignidad de todo ser humano en esta comunidad y más allá.
